Event: Hear from leaders in sport, business and mental health at Mental Health Forum 19 October

Legal & General's inaugural Mental Health Forum

Join us for an exciting day in Twickenham to look at how to tackle mental health in the workplace. 2B07-1507478251_redcardMAIN.jpg

We have partnered with leaders in the fields of sport, business and mental health to spearhead our Not A Red Card campaign to address mental health in the workplace. We believe it shouldn't be a Red Card offence to talk about mental health.

An environment where employees can talk about their mental wellbeing is a healthy environment. Our event is designed to showcase the benefits of such an environment, and give employers practical guidance about how to tackle mental health in the workplace.

Tell me about the event, what's the draw?

This will be a fantastic event, with some excellent speakers sharing their experiences.

The worlds of sport and business have always been inextricably linked, with both learning a lot from each other. At our event you will hear from leading sports and business people about their experiences in tackling mental health. Speakers include:

  • Gabby Logan, Sports commentator and presenter
  • Louise Aston - Wellbeing Director, Business in the Community
  • Sue Baker OBE, Director, Time to Change
  • Beth Robotham, Head of Business Development, Bupa UK
  • Nigel Wilson, Chief Executive, Legal & General

In addition, Alistair Campbell, journalist, broadcaster and author will be chairing a panel debate.

My time's important, why should I attend?

Our recent research showed that 78% of employers believe their employees would feel comfortable talking about depression and anxiety at work. Yet only 4% of employees who have experienced depression, and 5% who have experienced anxiety, actually feel able to talk to their employer about it in practice.

The case to attend our forum is clear. We can all benefit from learning about how to create a work environment where employees feel able to talk about their mental wellbeing.

The discussion doesn't stop there. We'll be looking at what more we can do and what the future holds to improve mental wellbeing for UK plc.

I want to be inspired

All businesses need a policy on how to deal with mental health in their workplace. This is an opportunity to learn how others do it, be inspired by leaders in the field of mental health and hear from leading sports figures about their own personal experiences.

This is a chance to join the conversation on how we raise awareness, educate and implement programmes that encourage more conversations about mental health in the workplace.

What's the format of the day?

In addition to hearing from leaders in their field, you'll hear case-studies from businesses about how they've tackled the mental health taboo in their places of work. You'll have a chance to network. You can also participate in roundtable discussions, discussing key challenges and opportunities.

What does Legal & General know?

We're a leading provider of wellbeing solutions in the UK group protection market, designed to help employers increase employee engagement, productivity and reduce the impact from long-term absence.

We have helped thousands of employees who have been unable to work due to mental health issues. It is the number one reason people make a claim on our Group Income Protection, giving us significant experience and insight in this area.

Our ability to intervene early and fund all appropriate treatments without needing a GP referral, helps employees with their recovery so they can return to work earlier.
