Report: Businesses need to do more to reward younger employees

Businesses could do more to reward younger employees in the 18 to 24 year old age bracket, according to The Rewards Report, a report commissioned by Red Letter Days for Business.

The report showed that 42% of 18-24 year olds did not receive a reward in 2015, making them one of the least rewarded age groups. In contrast their slightly older peers (25-34) were the most rewarded age group.

Bill Alexander, CEO at Red Letter Days for Business said the figures were worrying: "There's always going to be a small percentage of each age group that does not receive a reward from their employer due to various reasons such as staff members not performing. However as soon as this percentage reaches above 30% then alarm bells start ringing," he said.

The study also showed that, in the vast majority of cases, rewards do motivate with 82% of those employees who were motivated in 2015 receiving some sort of recognition for a job well done.

London was the most rewarded region and Scotland and East Anglia the least rewarded.
