Video: REBA New Year Lectures: Get your vision right and prepare for 2020 in 2016

If you had the choice of varifocals to see clearly would you be vain enough to do without? The analagy of eyesight and a clear vision and focus on the future was the main tone of Damian Stancombe, partner of pension specialists Barnett Waddingham speech.

Presenting at the REBA New Year Lectures 2016 Stancombe urged attendees to take a more rounded vision of their business and their employees if they are to truly understand them and, hopefully as a result, better retain staff.

His vision analogy came from his own decision to invest in varifocals. "I could live my life with the single view I had or I could adopt a wider, more rounded view of the future. I took a decision to invest in something because I hope it gives me clarity and I hope in return it gives me payback," he said.

The need for such greater clarity was highlighted by an audience poll Stancombe did at the start of his presentation which showed that only just over half of the audience said that they understood their employees "quite well" and 17% said not well enough.
