Preston said that she believed that a health and wellbeing initiative at her company had reduced absences by 22%, reduced turnover by 2.2% and improved motivation amongst its employees. Initiatives included everything from activity schemes to financial education awareness. “This year we have put in place mindfulness training. We are currently being acquired and that’s really stressful so we put in place change management and mindfulness training and that has been very effective. We’ve also encouraged people to go out and take exercise,” she said.

Iris International's Cox said that fitness was crucial to health and wellbeing within the corporate environment but said that it was important to ensure new habits became habit by addressing everyone individually. “It's about habit and behavioural change and understanding every single person as an individual,” she said. “You need to have someone as a professional to take it seriously."

Bean meanwhile said that her team had managed to deliver more than 80 events at a cost of only £50 in the last two years simply be embracing benefits providers and other resources. “It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money,” she said.
