Video tutorial: How Nomura is working to become Britain’s healthiest workplace

Japanese investment bank Nomura wants to be Britain’s healthiest company. That was the claim made by Mark Hudson, COO HR of Nomura, at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017.

Speaking at the event he said the aim was imperative for one reason: “Having an integrated health and wellbeing framework that looks at the emotional and physical health and wellbeing of our employees helps us to attract and retain the best talents in the business, not just because of what we pay them but a broader commitment to them as an employer,” said Hudson.

He said the banking industry typically involved long, stressful days and a cycle of eat, wash, sleep and repeat. “What we are trying to do is avoid this stereotype,” said Hudson.

He talked through the company’s building blocks – which include a range of onsite medical facitlities. He said over 2,800 employees had made use of the facility in the last 12 months alone. “Our employees do see this as an employee benefit but it’s also no exaggeration to say that we have to helped to save lives,” he said. 90 employees had had serious health risks identified as a result, he said.

Hudson also revealed how the company was using a range of other initiatives to improve the health of its employees. Find out more by watching the video in full.
