Video tutorial: Why businesses must ensure a holistic approach to wellbeing

Organisations must ensure a holistic approach to their wellbeing strategies, according to James Lee, chief design officer at Lifeworks.

Watch James Lee's session 'The evolution of employee wellbeing' in full.

To ensure this he said that businesses needed to have an everyday wellbeing model within their organisations with easily accessible platforms rather than too much HR technology and logins that could overwhelm staff.

Sharing his own experience of depression and panic attacks eight years ago  with the audience at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 Lee said that wellbeing had to be taken seriously – especially to deal with the issue of presenteeism.

Lee said with his own experience he was off work for two weeks but didn’t feel better for months despite returning to work. He said that both mentally and physically companies should do more to support their staff. “It’s not about getting people to show up at work it’s getting them to succeed at work,” he said.

To improve engagement of wellbeing programmes he insisted the personalisation was key. “It needs to be more personalised for every individual,” he said. Digital was vital to support wellbeing intiiatives in the workplace, he stressed.

This video tutorial was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 which took place on 22 June.
