Video: Matthew Taylor of the RSA on future technology

Matthew Taylor, chief executive of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and government gig economy adviser, outlines why the evolution of technology is not necessarily a threat.

Taylor explains that although automation drives down costs and gets cheaper very quickly, businesses cannot maintain margins for very long on automation alone. This is where organisations need to differentiate themselves.

“This question of whether [technology] is a threat depends on your values and it depends also on your capacity to be inventive. And that’s why I’m reasonably confident, because I think that in many companies they will say ‘ok, we don’t need those tasks but that will create space for us to do more interesting and innovative things’,” says Taylor.

Matthew Taylor is the opening keynote speaker at this year’s Innovation Day. Join us on 28 November in central London to future-proof your reward and benefits strategy.
