Video tutorial: Key campaigns that tackle mental health stigma

Businesses should be open and disruptive when it comes to mental health to move how it is handled in the workplace forward, according to Beth Robotham, head of business development at Bupa.

Speaking at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 she highlighted some of the key initiatives and campaigns that are helping to encourage a better experience around mental health. "It's really important that we highlight best practise," she said.

The first she highlighted, the Royal Family's Heads Together campaign was a great example of encouraging a great openness around mental health, she said.

Robotham also highlighted Mental Health First Aid Take 10, an educational campaign that allows companies to bring people together to talk about mental health in 10 minutes. "The premise is to bring people together and encourage them to talk about their mental health," she said.

The Green Ribbon and This is Me campaign was also helping to break down barriers, by encouraging businesses to make videos that show people that their organisations are comfortable to talk about their whole selves at work. “We have to be our whole selves at work to be true performers,” she said.

The Frazzled Cafe, fronted by Ruby Wax, also helped by creating spaces for people to talk about mental health with M&S already holding such sessions in their cafes. She encouraged the likes of coffee shops to get behind the initiative.

"It's really important that we are disruptive. Let's challenge each other and look to solve problems together," she said.

This video tutorial was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 which took place on 22 June.
