Video tutorial: Reward directors reveal their key take-ways from REBA's Reward Leaders' Forum 2018

The power of inertia, the value of better listening and frictionless action were all key take-aways for reward directors at one of REBA’s most recent events.

In a final panel session at the REBA Reward Leaders’ Forum 2018 three reward directors shared their key take-aways from the event. Meera Mistry, head of reward at Ascential highlighted the value of inertia and said her company would also look at providing employees with more options that are more relevant at the relevant point in time, following lessons learnt at the event.

Peter Robotham, head of group employee benefits policy at HSBC, said a better focus on short-term financial problems for staff should also be considered, a key topic at the event. He cited his own personal use of Chip – an app that allows you to automatically put money aside without feeling it. “The technology is there to help people save and we need our employees to engage with them,” he said.

Sheila Champion-Smeeth, total rewards consultant at EMEA at Cisco, said the day had also reminded her that businesses need to take an individualised approach rather than pigeon-holing what companies believe that employees need. She said it was also important to help companies retire and work with them on a 'pre-retirement' plan. “If you can help them leave your organisation feeling fabulous about the company they’ve worked for because you’ve helped them on your journey then that’s an area of focus for me,” she said.

This video was recorded at the REBA Reward Leaders’ Forum 2018 in London on 18 April 2018.
