Webinar: managing the effectiveness of group insurances and employee benefits during COVID-19

Register to watch REBA’s latest webinar in its ongoing series looking at the impact of coronavirus on reward and employee benefits.

Group insurances are a key benefit for many employers and their staff, but how have these services responded during the coronavirus crisis? This was the key question addressed in REBA's latest webinar into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The webinar generated some fantastic questions about the impact of coronavirus on group insurances, private medical insurance, health trusts, associated services such as Employee Assistance Programmes and virtual GPs, as well as issues around cost management and future changes to reward and benefits strategy.

The panel of senior reward and benefits employers and industry experts was chaired by Debi O'Donovan, founder and co-director, REBA. The panellists were:

  • Andrew Baillie, reward director - Europe and Africa at Diageo;
  • Deborah Frost, chief executive at Personal Group.
  • Karen Gaynor, global head of benefits at Siemens;
  • Lorna MacMillan, global head of benefits at P. Moller - Maersk;
  • Jaco Oosthuizen, co-founder and chief insurance officer at YuLife.

Each panellist spoke about what they had been dealing with in their own organisations and their various approaches to ensuring they get the best value from their group insurances and employee benefits. The two partner speakers also offered some fascinating insight into how the insurance industry as a whole is responding to the pandemic.

The panel also answered a range of questions from our live audience, including queries on levels of cover in different countries, whether in future employers will need to think about what benefits are offered to high- and low-paid staff (is it right to only provide cover to higher paid staff?), and how virtual GPs are now being used.

At this difficult time, we feel that it is vital the reward and employee benefits community comes to together to share ideas and experiences, and to understand that each of us is not alone in dealing with these complex issues in difficult circumstances.
