5 ways work impacts wellbeing (and a free resource for employers)

How work affects people’s health makes sobering reading, if the British Heart Foundation’s new survey is anything to go by.It found that:

  • 34% of workers think they have put on weight because of their work
  • 49% say their job has driven them to eat more unhealthily
  • 43% say their work has caused them to exercise less than they would like
  • 22% say their job has led to them to drink more alcohol
  • 9% say it’s been a trigger for smoking more.

Overall 41% people feel their job has had a negative impact on their health in the last five years.

And 55% say they became more stressed as a result of their job over the past five years.

Fortunately, there are free tools employers can use to help staff.

February is Heart Month so the British Heart Foundation is encouraging employers to join its Health at Work programme and run the 10 minute Heart Month Challenge, starting on 16 February.

Businesses get free resources and support to challenge their workforce to make one small improvement to their lifestyle for 10 days during Heart Month.

Sign up for the British Heart Foundation’s Health at Work 10 Minute Challenge.

Go on - do it, it could save someone’s life.
