Government papers: A Report into the Ethnic Diversity of UK Boards

This independent review by Sir John Parker considers how to improve the ethnic and cultural diversity of UK boards to better reflect their employee base and the communities they serve.

Ethnic Diversity of UK Boards 1

Key findings:

  • UK citizen directors of colour represent about 2% of the total director population in the FTSE 100.
  • 51 out of the FTSE 100 companies do not have any directors of colour.
  • Understanding and responding to cultural and demographic change is a major commercial imperative both in the UK and globally.
  • The Steering Committee believes that it is important that FTSE 100 and FTSE 250 companies change the way they approach the issue of ethnic diversity in the boardroom and the pipeline.

This final report sets out objectives and timescales to encourage greater diversity, and provides practical tools to help business leaders to address the issue.
