But it does so with some truly shocking statistics – for instance that workers already contribute care valued at £59.5 billion per year (equivalent to 4 million social care workers working every day of the week) – and that it is predicted to grow even more, with a disproportionate burden faced by women.
It finds:
- 62% of carers who are also full-time employees are women
- 29% of female carers provide care for multiple types of people, including those outside their immediate family
- 29% of informal carers are providing care for their parents
