Savills’ latest ‘What Workers Want’ report 2019, reveals office workers find the idea of hot-desking turns them cold.

Savills: What Workers Want 2019 1

The European-wide research, conducted by YouGov amongst more than 11,000 office-based employees, reveals the majority of office workers still want their own dedicated desk. Some 60% of respondents chose this as their preferred workplace location.

It also found there was little variation about this desire between age groups, dispelling the myth that younger workers are more prepared to work flexibly.

More reassuringly, it also finds:

  • 53% of UK office workers say they are happy with their workplace – up from 48% in 2016
  • Almost a third of workers (32%) say their workplace’s internal design/layout decreases their productivity
  • 39% of workers agree that their workplace positively impacts their mental health (up from 33% in 2016)
