Report: The State of Ageing in 2019

With current demographic trends indicating the number of people aged 65+ will increase by more than 40% in the next 20 years, The Centre for Better Ageing has produced a report looking into the impact this will have on employees’ lives today and in the future for both staff and employers.

Report: The State of Aging in 2019 1

In a reflection of current employment trends, it already finds black and Asian people are most likely to be poor in later life, while the average 65 year old will only live half of their remaining life diasability-free – an area that might concern employers, with greater numbers working beyond the age of 65.

It also finds:

  • Older workers tend to be in ‘insecure work’ – jobs which are low paid or temporary
  • 20% of workers aged 65-74 are in insecure work
  • 22% of men and 21% of women aged 55-64 have a health problem that limits the sort of work they can do
