Survey: EEF Health and Work Survey 2018

Howden and EEF – the trade body for manufacturing (now rebranded as ‘Make UK’) – have summarised the key industry issues and trends for health and wellbeing in the workplace during 2018.

Revealing that the number of workers in the UK over the age of 50 reached a record 10 million for the first time, this year’s report finds medical investigations and/or surgery are the most common cause of long-term sickness absence for manufacturers.

It also finds:

  • 99% of manufacturing companies implement some kind of solution to help reintegrate employees back into work
  • BUT...tracking of these interventions is limited, with 37% admitting they didn’t know if the measures they’d put into place to manage musculoskeletal disorder risks have any impact on the number of cases in the business.

According to a government review though, successful return of investment of workplace mental health interventions is an average of £4.20 for every £1 spent.
