Policy note: 'What works to reduce your gender pay gap'

The Government Equalities Office has produced a new paper aimed at educating employers about how best to reduce their gender pay gaps.

Three key areas are identified as having the greatest impact: supporting talent through flexible working; supporting equal sharing of childcare through parental leave; and supporting parents with child care.

To do this, its recommendations include:

  • Offering choice to workers by giving both paternity and shared paternity leave
  • Getting more familiar with childcare options (tax-free childcare; universal credit and tax credits)
  • Recognising employees have the right to request flexible working
