Aon report: The Global Medical Trend Rates Report 2026

Providing forecasts for over 100 countries and locations around the world, this report offers insights from Aon professionals on how they expect medical rates to change, based on their consultations with clients and the carriers represented in their medical plan portfolio. 

In the UK, the medical trend rate has dropped significantly, reflecting the impact of targeted cost containment strategies and a shift toward more sustainable benefit designs. 

Employers are increasingly utilising data analytics to drive targeted health strategies and wellness initiatives that manage and improve employee health risk, the report finds.

  • The average medical trend cost rate for 2026 will decline to 12%, down from 17% in 2025.
  • Medical plan costs across the world will rise by 9.8% in 2026, marking a return to single-digit global growth rates for the first time since 2023.
  • Only two regions have an anticipated gross medical trend rate higher than that predicted for 2025 – North America (9.3% up from 8.8%) and APAC (11.3% up from 11.1%)
