Guidance: Actions to close the Gender Pay Gap

To mark there being just two months to go before the deadline for firms to publish their ‘gender pay gap’ figure, the Government Equalities Office has published guidance on how employers can reduce any gaps they might find.

Guidance: Actions to close the Gender Pay Gap 1

Included in its actions are recommendations to:

  • Ensure at least one woman is included on job shortlists
  • Use skills-based assessment (to test what they’re likely to do in a job)
  • Use structured interviews for recruitment and promotion
  • Encourage salary negotiation by being more transparent about salary ranges

It also urges firms to ‘de-bias systems’ as well as investigate running unconscious bias training and having diversity targets.
