Report: Gender Equality Index 2017
Key findings:
- The score of the Gender Equality Index in 2015 stood at 66.2 out of 100, showing the need for significant improvement. This is a relatively small improvement since 2005, when the Index stood at 62 points.
- The gender gap in full-time equivalent employment is as high as 16 percentage points, reflecting a lower overall participation of women in the labour market and a higher take-up of part-time jobs by women relative to men.
- The labour market participation of women with low educational attainment is only half the participation rate of low-qualified men.
- Women with low levels of qualifications are at high risk of long-term unemployment and precarious employment.
- Low participation in the labour market is pronounced among certain groups of women, hampering the achievement of the Europe 2020 target of a 75% employment rate.
