Research: UK labour market: June 2018

The latest estimates from the Office for National Statistics’ Labour Force Survey show that, between November 2017 to January 2018 and February to April 2018, the number of people in work increased.

Key findings:

  • The employment rate was 75.6 per cent, higher than for a year earlier (74.8 per cent) and the joint highest since comparable records began in 1971.
  • Latest estimates show that average weekly earnings – not adjusted for price inflation – increased by 2.8 per cent excluding bonuses, and by 2.5 per cent including bonuses, compared with a year earlier.
  • Average weekly earnings – adjusted for price inflation – increased by 0.4 per cent excluding bonuses, and by 0.1 per cent including bonuses, compared with a year earlier.
