Figures from the Office for National Statistics show that three out of four people who take their own lives are men and they are at much higher rate of alcohol and substance abuse than women. But, traditional views of masculinity often prevent them from seeking help when they are experiencing problems and men account for only 36% of referrals to NHS psychological therapies.

It’s also been noted that those who identify as transwomen or non-binary are also at higher risk of depression, substance abuse and suicidal thoughts.

However, Nick Fletcher, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Issues Affecting Men and Boys, says: “Men do talk if the environment is right, where there will not be real or imagined consequences." Construction and civil engineering firm, BAM UK & Ireland, is showing how this can be achieved by creating safe spaces in the workplace.

Take a look at the full article to learn how to meet this challenge and discover how BAM, a firm in a male-dominated industry, is making a difference.
