How Ocado's holistic approach to health and wellbeing is meeting changing needs

Changes in workplace trends mean employers must look more broadly when developing health and wellbeing strategies, says group’s Global Head of Wellbeing and Inclusion during REBA webinar

A more holistic approach to health and wellbeing can benefit an organisation, says Arti Kashyap-Aynsley, Global Head of Wellbeing and Inclusion at Ocado Group.

Speaking on the Working trends which are changing health and wellbeing strategies REBA webinar on 5 July 2023, Kashyap-Aynsley, said that as employee wellbeing is influenced by a broad range of workplace factors, engagement survey data should be looked at more broadly.

“We look at markers such as flexibility, autonomy, work demands – anything that might affect someone being able to do a good job,” she said.

Taking this broader approach may drive change in the work environment, such as greater flexibility, rather than lead to the introduction of new wellbeing interventions. “It’s about how we can really support our people,” she added. “What is their experience of work and what wider changes would improve it?”

Working more holistically can also ensure the employee experience remains consistent when change is introduced. As an example, Kashyap-Aynsley worked with Ocado’s global head of benefit and reward and its global head of policy to ensure the organisation’s menopause policy was aligned with its corporate philosophy.

Collaborating in this way can bring additional advantages. “We were able to see what extra benefits we would need to introduce and how our relationships with insurers and providers could support this,” she said.
