Report: Breaking the cycle

This BHSF report considers how modern life is affecting the UK's workforce and what employers can do about it.

Report: Breaking the cycle 1

Key findings

  • Nearly 25 per cent of people have had time off work in the last year due to stress or personal problems.
  • Finances and money were found to be the greatest contributor to stress.
  • 58 per cent of people have gone into work despite suffering from health or stress issues, with 45 per cent of employees feeling unable to approach their employer if personal issues, such as divorce or debt, were affecting their lives and work performance.
  • Line managers need more training to identify when one of their direct reports is beginning to spiral. And HR departments need to be empowered to deliver more mental health initiatives, to break taboos and offer routes to assistance.

If you're looking to improve your current support structure, this report will help by outlining how to increase resilience and create a healthy working environment.
