Video tutorial: Nigel Wilson of Legal & General & David Grayson on the CEO perspective of wellbeing

Global change is happening in terms of environmental, social and governance issues around the world, according to Nigel Wilson, CEO of Legal & General, but it needs to be led from the top. “There are huge numbers of corporates wanting to do the right thing,” he said.

He told delegates at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019, that for Legal & General doing the right thing was a key focus, particularly around areas such as mental health where the company has one mental health first-aider per 70 staff. “It’s about the same number as physical first-aiders. Actually there are more mental health issues raised than physical at work right now,” he said.

“Lots of CEOs are recognising that we do have this wider purpose and we need to deliver on that wider purpose and be authentic about it,” Wilson told David Grayson CBE, emeritus professor of corporate responsibility at Cranfield School of Management and co-author of “All In: The Future of Business Leadership”.

“It’s fine to talk about these things but you need to walk them too. We have to be setting the tone from the top,” said Wilson.

This video was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019, held in London on 20 June.
