Turning Point report: UK Charity Insights Report 2026

Turning Point’s UK Charity Insights Report 2026 highlights significant operational and financial pressures facing non-profit organisations across the UK.

The last few years have been a challenging time for charities across the UK. Turning Point's UK Charity Insights Report 2026 highlights that over the past decade, a sharp drop of six million individual donors has cost the sector an estimated £12.4 billion. At the same time, operational costs have surged due to higher inflation, along with recent increases in employers’ National Insurance contributions and the National Living Wage.

In response, organisations have slowed hiring, evidenced by an 18% drop in job postings, and pivoted toward corporate fundraising. Region-specific data shows slower wage growth in London compared to the rest of the UK.

These financial constraints and understaffing issues have severely strained employees. Job dissatisfaction has risen, with over one in five (21%) charity workers reporting feeling unhappy.

Overtime hours have also escalated sharply. To improve retention and staff wellbeing without inflating salary structures, charities are re-evaluating compensation strategy. They are prioritising enhanced non-pay benefits, such as healthcare cash plans, flexible working policies, and matched pension schemes.
