Video: Theresa Winters of Santander UK on its approach to supporting women going through menopause

Theresa Winters, people insight lead at Santander UK, explains how the bank has tried to normalise conversations around menopause to enable it to better support women.

Although the business had some policy guidelines in place, these weren’t being openly discussed. To address this, Santander communicated with its colleagues to increase people’s knowledge of what menopause is and the symptoms around it, with the aim of creating a more open and understanding culture.

“We’ve started to do some awareness sessions,” says Winters. “And the thing that has been powerful to me is the importance of talking and how much difference that makes to women knowing that they’re not alone and that they can have that conversation.”

Winters was part of the employer panel at REBA’s Women’s Health in the Workplace event in association with AXA PPP Healthcare. It brought together academics, employers and organisations from the charity sector to discuss the importance of recognising and supporting female employees’ health.
