Report: International Labour Organisation

The annual report of the International Labour Organisation into welfare and human dignity presents worrying findings, revealing that globally, just 68% of people of retirement age receive some form of pension.

Report: International Labour Organisation 1

It reveals that while many high- and middle-income countries have achieved universal health coverage, this is not the global picture.

In particular it finds:

  • In many low-income countries, fewer than 20% of older persons over the statutory retirement age are in receipt of a pension.
  • Only 26% of the elderly in central and southern Asia and only 23% in sub-Saharan Africa receive a pension
