MetLife report: 2025 Expat Employee Benefit Trends Study
This research shows that trust amplifies the impact of employee care strategies, and employers must embed trust into their global work environment and culture by taking actions that improve care strategies for globally mobile employees.
They can do this by improving continuity of support throughout assignments, starting when employees begin planning life abroad and continuing through readjustment to life in their home country.
Communicating proactively about the benefits and services that globally-mobile employees can access to address challenges they may face on assignment, is crucial, particularly providing information and reassurance about protection and life-enhancing benefits. Flexible benefits are also key.

- 43% of employees travel on assignments alone, 29% travel with a spouse or partner.
- 75% of globally-mobile employees do not fully understand their benefits packages, and 67% feel that most of the communications they receive about benefits lack relevance to them.
- 59% of globally mobile employees prefer video resources or podcasts to communicate benefits education.
