Health and wellbeing strategies: a bespoke approach ensures the best use of budget

When it comes to looking after the health and wellbeing of your employees there are a multitude of schemes and insurance policies to choose from, but do they fit your specific requirements? In many cases employers find themselves taking off-the-shelf products and services which don’t quite meet their needs and often overlap in benefits provided.

Understanding your objectives

At Healix we believe in a consultative approach, ensuring that we understand your objectives before designing health and wellbeing schemes bespoke to your needs, and enabling integrated provision across all your health-related employee benefits, irrespective of who the providers are.

By tailoring benefits to your specific requirements and providing expert clinical insight and advice, we give you control over your health and wellbeing strategy, helping ensure the most effective use of your overall budget.

With our nurse-led approach to case management and your employees at the centre of all we do, you can be sure of clinical and service excellence.

A flexible approach to scheme design

Our specialist knowledge and flexibility allows us to work with you to create schemes aligned with your healthcare strategy, enabling better long-term planning and ensuring the future sustainability of your healthcare budget.

We offer a range of health and wellbeing services that can be included in a single healthcare trust contract, with the many advantages that a healthcare trust offers. We also provide access to other complementary services outside the trust, through arrangements we have specially negotiated with partner organisations.

What is a healthcare trust and how does it work?

A healthcare trust is an alternative way of funding healthcare benefits for employees. Instead of paying premiums to an insurance company, the money is placed in a healthcare trust fund which is used to fund claims. At Healix we specialise in managing healthcare trust schemes and administering the claims, and have been winners of the prestigious annual ‘Healthcare Trust Provider Award’ six times in the past seven years.

Advantages of a healthcare trust include control and flexibility of scheme benefit design, and the fact that any unused claims fund can be retained and used to fund additional wellbeing benefits or to offset future claim costs. At Healix, we include Specific Stop Loss insurance to protect against the cost of single high cost claims as well as Aggregate Stop Loss to protect against the combined level of claims exceeding an agreed level.

Nurse-led case management

Our nurse-led approach to case management provides ‘claimants’ with a much more reassuring experience. The knowledge, empathy and understanding shown by our case managers means we are able to provide scheme members with a far greater level of support and care.

Our clinical expertise means we can also ensure that the appropriate medical care pathway is taken and that medical costs are correctly managed, without having to restrict hospital choice and avoiding delays in authorisation.

Integrated health and wellbeing benefits

In addition to traditional private healthcare benefits and a 24/7 GP Helpline, we can also include a range of other healthcare benefits within the same healthcare trust contract including cash plan, dental and health screening benefits.

We act as a central hub coordinating provision with other overlapping services, directing employees to the most appropriate benefits whether provided by us, one of our partners, or through another provider our clients already have in place.

For example, it is not uncommon for an employee to be claiming from the mental health benefit through their company PMI policy when they could be utilising a 24hr telephone counselling service, or even face to face sessions, already funded through their employer’s EAP provider. If there was a joined up approach with the EAP and PMI provider, costs could be mitigated to reduce annual spend, but more importantly, the employee would receive the most appropriate immediate care.

Furthermore, we can also provide our clients with valuable clinical insight and intelligence which can be shared with the underwriters of their other group schemes such as income protection, critical illness, international PMI and life assurance. This insight can assist further in ensuring the most appropriate use of benefits across your whole healthcare provision and the most effective use of your overall healthcare budget.
