Video tutorial: Mercer’s Yvonne Sonsino on using latest tech advances to support an ageing workforce

Organisations can use the latest advances in technology to better support an ageing workforce, according to Yvonne Sonsino, partner and innovation leader at Mercer.

Sonsino was recently co-chair of a DWP thinktank on fuller working lives which looked at the challenges ageing workforces are facing and is an author of a book on the subject too. “It’s important to look at an ageing workforce,” she said.

Addressing delegates at the REBA Innovation Day 2018 she talked about the impact of a million extra over 50s employees in the workforce by 2025 in an age where the cost of benefits is also creeping up. However she also highlighted the positive impacts of an age diverse workforce – one that Mercer’s research shows to be more productive than a single age workforce, she said.

Organisations need to better understand the use of platforms, apps and workplace data she said. “Data tells us some really interesting things such as skills that are likely to fall out of our workforce,” she said.

This video was recorded at the REBA Innovation Day 2018, held in London on 22 November.
