Video tutorial: Scottish Widow’s Stuart Hopley on how to make financial wellbeing fun

Although financial stresses can have a huge impact on physical and mental health, financial wellbeing can be fun, according to Stuart Hopley, workplace pensions specialist at Scottish Widows.

Speaking at the Employee Wellbeing Congress 2018 he said the element of fun was crucial to help better engage staff in their financial health.

For Scottish Widows, video content worked particularly well for education, he said. “It seems to be the preferred method that people get information through right now.” He said the company had delivered 30-40 second video clips answering the most frequently asked questions around pensions.

He illustrated an event where the company had taken its Pensions Awareness Day Bus to a client and provided an ice-cream van too, but where staff were only able to claim their treat after going on the bus. “Combining fun with food is another idea,” he said.

He said the company also uses the Scottish Widows ‘Age Me’ game to help staff understand their financial health. “It’s a simple concept. You take a selfie, you put in a simple piece of information with regards to your pensions savings and it will age you appropriately to when you would receive a decent level of income in retirement,” he said.

This video was recorded at the Employee Wellbeing Congress 2018.
