Survey: The effectiveness of pension trustee boards

With The Pensions Regulator’s focus on 21st century trusteeship, Punter Southall Governance Services’ research looks into just how effective pension trustees and trustee boards actually are.

Survey: The effectiveness of pension trustee boards 1

The three key themes emerging from the PSGS survey are:

  1. Too few pension trustee boards are assessing their performance and those that do are not doing so very effectively.
  2. Fundamental basics aren’t being achieved by all trustees on a board – including being well prepared for meetings, actively participating in discussions and understanding the strategy and direction of their pension scheme.
  3. Start as you mean to go on – boards are less effective when there’s no formal process for bringing on board new trustees.
