Anna Jones of KPMG on supporting the mental wellbeing of a diverse workforce

Anna Jones, people partner at KPMG, spoke to Dr Nick Taylor, CEO of Unmind, about the way the organisation has been supporting the mental wellbeing of its diverse workforce.

With a workforce spanning 70 countries Jones, who was speaking at REBA's Employee Wellbeing Congress, said that KPMG has had to create a wellbeing strategy that takes into consideration different cultures and attitudes to mental health.

"In some countries people are keen to talk about mental health and others will be quite closed, and we have had to establish very trusting relationships before people there feel they can open up," she said.

She added that the demographic of the organisation also spans a vast age range, from younger graduate employees who will be quite mental health aware and want active conversations about the topic, to older employees who are perhaps more used to these issues being kept behind closed doors.

Jones also discussed how such a diverse workforce has meant that the company has realised the importance of providing digital, in-person and group initiatives to meet all employee needs to ensure they can engage with support in the best way for them.

"People interact with the company in very different ways, so the whole suite of support we offer caters to those needs," she added.
