Aviva research: Working Lives Report 2024: Working for the Future

This is the third consecutive annual in-depth investigation into employer and employee attitudes to the workplace, finances, wellbeing, and planning for retirement

In this, the latest Aviva Working Lives Report, employers and employees across the UK were surveyed to gather their views and experiences of their working environment during what is still considered a cost-of-living squeeze for many people and businesses.

Key findings

  • Most employers (85%) feel responsible for ensuring employees save for an adequate retirement, with about a quarter of those (26%) saying they feel very responsible.
  • Households have clearly felt the squeeze on income. Almost three-quarters of employees (73%) said the cost-of-living crisis has made them feel more anxious about their finances.
  • More employers have again this year either introduced support for the first time (2024: 13% versus 2023: 10%) or increased it (2024: 31% versus 2023: 25%) for retaining employees aged 50 and above.
