BI WORLDWIDE report: Recogdemption: A Formula for Loyalty. A Blueprint for Change

‘Recogdemption’ is defined as “the act of giving early recognition, which accelerates early engagement in reward redemption and drives retention”.

It shows, using data from BI WORLDWIDE’s EMEA client programmes, that the first six months of a new employee’s tenure are critical, and that six or more recognitions can double rates of engagement with reward.

Specifically, there are two primary types of employee behaviour: spenders, who redeem rewards every six months, typically after five or six “recognitions”; and savers, who redeem every 12 to 24 months, typically after between eight and 12 recognitions.

  • 66% of high/frequent recognition receivers at one employer are also high/frequent visitors to its rewards platform.
  • 50% of high recognition receivers are classified as spenders.
  • 40% of occasional/low recognition receivers are savers.
  • High-frequency reward redeemers are four times more likely to stay in an organisation for at least 18 months.
