This independent review of modern working practices considers the implications of new forms of work on worker rights and responsibilities, as well as on employer freedoms and obligations.

• The review considers that those working in this way should receive the same benefits from the state as those in traditional employment.
• Portable benefits platforms can provide ways for people who are self-employed, or engaging in other non-traditional labour market activity, to gain access to a range of non-statutory benefits and protections. This might cover benefits such as sick leave, holiday leave, occupational illness or injury, pension plans, and further training.

The review concludes by setting out seven principles to address the challenges facing the UK labour market.
