As workforce expectations have evolved, and sustainability has become not only a corporate imperative, but a competitive advantage when attracting talent, Jet2 saw the need to upscale its employee benefit package.

Through its recent partnership with salary-sacrifice car benefit provider Tusker, Jet2 has launched an electric vehicle (EV) scheme.

By doing so, the company has strengthened support for employees' financial wellbeing, boosting engagement, while also making significant progress toward its Net Zero mission.

The challenge: Meeting employee needs while driving sustainability

Jet2 understood that a benefits package that caters to the needs of its diverse workforce was not only essential to employee wellbeing, but also to attract and retain top talent.

However, growing financial pressures and surging demand for sustainable benefits presented a unique challenge:

  • With a limited ability for mass pay rises, Jet2 needed to find alternative methods to uplift employee financial health amid cost-of-living pressures.
  • As part of its Net Zero strategy, Jet2 wanted to reduce its carbon footprint, whilst also supporting employees’ personal missions towards sustainability.
  • In today's competitive labour market, offering standout benefits to support diverse employee needs, including finances and sustainability, are key to motivation and loyalty.

The solution - A strategic partnership with Tusker

Jet2 didn’t just want another employee benefit - it wanted a smooth, high-value offering that would work for its diverse, multigenerational workforce. Tusker’s expertise in salary-sacrifice schemes made it the perfect partner.

Tailored for Jet2’s workforce:

  • Accessible to all: with employees spread across 13 UK bases, including Northern Ireland, the scheme had to be communicated effectively to both office-based and frontline staff.
  • No barriers to EV adoption: Tusker included home charge points in the package, removing a key obstacle for employees considering electric cars.
  • Flexible and inclusive: Unlike traditional car schemes, Jet2’s offering with Tusker is available year-round, giving employees time to make an informed decision.

A multi-channel communication strategy

To ensure every employee understood the scheme, Jet2 and Tusker pursued a dynamic engagement campaign:

  • Interactive webinars, with live and recorded sessions catered to different shifts and locations.
  • Targeted email campaigns using clear, concise messaging to drive high engagement.
  • Face-to-face roadshows for non-desk-based teams, in-person Q&As built trust and excitement.
  • On-demand resources, including FAQs, videos, and brochures catered to different employee needs.

On top of this, the launch within Northern Ireland offices was carefully adapted to meet regional regulations. Employee messaging was tailored, to ensure the entire workforce had an opportunity to understand and access the new benefit.

The results: A win for employees, business, and the planet

Since its launch in June 2024, the scheme has gone beyond expectations with exceptional take-up and engagement:

  • More than 800 cars already on the road, with another ~100 awaiting delivery, a 16% take-up rate in the first year since launch
  • Over 3,000 employees have explored the benefit by creating an online account, demonstrating strong interest.
  • Employees commit for an average of 47 months, providing greater commitment and loyalty to Jet2.

Considerable financial savings:

  • Employees save £357 per month on average through tax and NI efficiencies.
  • Jet2 saves more than £100 per month per driver in Class 1A NI, allowing the company to reinvest in other projects.

A more sustainable offering:

  • 100% of orders are electric, directly supporting Jet2’s Net Zero goals.
  • Tusker has already offset 2,100 plus tonnes of Jet2 employees’ CO2 from charging emission, equivalent to planting over 95,500 trees.

Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with staff praising:

  • An easy and accessible process from order to delivery.
  • Cost savings making premium EVs affordable, with many unable to afford them prior.
  • Additional bonuses, including some charger installations eliminating range anxiety.
  • Word-of-mouth has been a powerful driver, with early adopters becoming the scheme’s best representatives.

Conclusion

Jet2’s electric car scheme is not just another benefit but a strategic tool that delivers several outcomes for the company and its employees.

By providing a benefit that matches the diversity of its workforce, aligning with sustainability goals, and choosing the right partner in Tusker, Jet2 has created a benefit that:

  • Enhances financial wellbeing
  • Boosts retention, engagement, and loyalty
  • Propels its transition to Net Zero

As demand continues to surge, the scheme is set to become one of Jet2’s most successful employee benefits, demonstrating that when businesses invest in its people and the planet, everyone wins.
