Report: 2020 Global Culture Report

A renewed effort to improve workplace culture and enable employees to thrive at work is leading to broad-based improvements in culture, finds this report from O.C. Tanner Institute.

Report: 2020 Global Culture Report 1

Key findings

  • The average engagement score is 72%, up 6% from the previous year, yet 59% of employees are still willing to leave their organisation.
  • Only 42% of employees feel good about their daily experiences at work.
  • Burnout is the new workplace crisis – with 79% suffering from burnout.
  • Traditional leadership is being replaced with mentoring, connection and recognition.
  • Psychologically safe, autonomous teams produce two to three times higher employee engagement, more great work, and a better overall employee experience.
  • Only 51% of employees say their company excels at listening to employees. Listening is more than hearing, and improves employee satisfaction.

The report, which draws on a study of more than 20,000 employees and leaders from across the world, emphasises that leaders are a crucial part of the employee experience and play a critical part in building thriving workplace cultures.
