Video tutorial: How Jessie Pavelka has helped to improve the health and wellbeing of Cisco's staff

Finding something that’s relevant for everyone in your organisation is no easy task when it comes to health and wellbeing, according to Sheila Champion-Smeeth, total rewards consultant EMEAR at Cisco.

Watch Sheila Champion-Smeeth's Jessie Pavelka case study in full.

Speaking at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 she explained how Cisco has partnered with health and fitness expert Jessie Pavelka to be the company’s health and wellbeing ambassador.

As part of the Cisco Pavelka Initiative there are four elements created by Pavelka that he said were accessible to everyone – they are eat, sweat, think and connect.

“It was about getting down to true health,” said Champion-Smeeth. “There isn’t a one size fits all approach to health and wellbeing,” she said, explaining that the programme was mostly about simple, sustainable changes that employees can make to their lives.

“The initiative is about bringing inspiration, it’s inclusive. We want to make sure employees become resilient in everything they do,” said Champion-Smeeth. Cisco has also created a forum where users can chat and share their own stories too. “The community is really important so we also introduced an online platform that talks all about the four elements of health – the Pavelka house for Cisco – and which users can also introduce others too as well,” she said.

She explained the four elements, and how the company and its staff were tackling them and said there had been big changes within the business as a result. "Ultimately we need to focus and get those employees thinking what they can do. Find something that really hits home for everyone," she said.

This video tutorial was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2017 which took place on 22 June.
