Video tutorial: Mercer's Nick McClelland and Dr Wolgang Seidl on beyond lip-service in wellbeing

Organisations need to go beyond just lip-service and look at the role of personality, identity and behaviours to support a culture of wellbeing, according to Dr Wolfgang Seidl, workplace health solutions leader UK and Europe of Mercer Marsh Benefits and Nick McClelland, commercial leader of Mercer.

The duo were speaking at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019, where they were discussing new research into the psychology of personality and wellbeing to develop a culture of health and wellbeing.

McClelland said that organisations need a new approach to how they approach wellbeing from normal. “In my experience we don’t often ask a really important question. It’s about purpose. Why are you bothering?”

To do more than a simple tick box approach on wellbeing he said organisations need to do more to support their people’s wellbeing and think about the boardroom and their responses to the question of purpose. “A one-side wellbeing strategy doesn’t work and doesn’t address your people’s needs,” said Dr Seidl.

This video was recorded at the REBA Employee Wellbeing Congress 2019, held in London on 20 June.
