The need to support workforce health and wellbeing has never been greater. This year’s Health and Wellbeing Research 2025, together with AXA Health, highlights how employers are tackling today’s challenges with long-term strategic interventions to help create a sustainable and resilient workforce.

The research found three key factors that are influencing health and wellbeing strategies are:
1. Many employees find it challenging to quickly access NHS clinical care, which is influencing employers’ approach to health and wellbeing.

2. The rapid expansion of digital health services, both in public and private healthcare, are helping to improve access and speed of treatment, as well as provide greater personalisation.

3. Discussion and actions focusing on prevention are on the rise to mitigate people risks such as the ageing workforce and an increase in chronic conditions.

Together these shifts set the scene for how organisations will use awareness, education and behaviour change to reduce future ill-health claims and mitigate rising costs.

“This research demonstrates the use of a wider range of digital tools and services, along with the data they can deliver to help employers fine-tune strategies, forecast outcomes and justify budget requests in robust business terms,” said Debi O’Donovan, director at the Reward & Employee Benefits Association.

The research provides insights into:

  • The effectiveness of preventative health measures
  • How to transform health journeys with digital tools and services.
  • Ways that technology is enabling greater personalisation.
  • The data most valued for measuring health and wellbeing ROI.
  • How employers plan to alter PMI design over the next two years.

“This report sheds light on the challenges we face in assessing future health risks, with claims data serving as a valuable source of insights and trends,” said Heather Smith, chief executive officer at AXA Health.

“By coming together and understanding data-backed insights, we can confidently prioritise effective healthcare solutions and investment strategies that truly benefit our workforce.”
