Bright Horizons’ report: UK Work + Family Snapshot 2023

This research seeks to understand more about the current and future challenges employees face as working parents and carers, and how employers can help.

Each year Bright Horizons’ survey its clients’ employees to understand more about the current and future challenges they face as employees, parents and carers.

The survey aims to uncover employees’ evolving needs to anticipate what they will most value from their employers in future. This, in turn, helps its clients to maintain their market leading positions and encourage other organisations to provide better support going forward.

This year, more than 1,750 employees responded across 182 Bright Horizons clients and multiple sectors. This report provides an insight into the impact this support has on their lives, loyalty and engagement.

Key findings

  1. Supportive employers reap rewards - greater employee wellbeing, productivity and brand perception.
  2. Two thirds of people experience care disruption - back-up care is the essential bridge.
  3. The family-friendly employer gap is closing - there’s no room for complacency.
  4. Younger generation expects to blend career ambition and family - it’s the new normal.
  5. The great career re-think - over 55s and under 35s continue to re-evaluate career options.
