Report: Health at Work

Britain's Healthiest Workplace report, compiled by Vitality and published in conjunction with the Financial Times, provides an in-depth understanding of employees’ health and the effectiveness of workplace health interventions.

Health at work 1

The report is one of the largest and most comprehensive datasets on workplace health and wellbeing in the UK, covering areas as diverse as lifestyle health, clinical health, mental health, work engagement and productivity.

Key findings:

    • Employees lost 11.7 per cent of their working hours due to absence (0.8 per cent) and presenteeism (10.9 per cent). This is significantly lower than in the other surveyed countries.
    • 17 per cent of respondents show low engagement with work and only 11 per cent show high engagement. Young respondents are generally less engaged and feel fatigue at work.
    • Particularly young respondents are at risk for mental health, with 8.5 per cent of those in the 21-25 age category indicating they suffer from depression.
    • Employees with a lot of financial concerns are twice as likely to be obese and seven times more likely to suffer from depression than those without any financial concerns.
    • Employees with sleep quality difficulties do less physical activity, drink more alcohol, are more likely to be smokers, show higher work-related stress, and are five times more likely to suffer from depression than those without any sleep difficulties.
    • On average, each organisation offers more than 20 workplace health interventions.
