The benefits perception gap: Are employers missing key opportunities?
REBA’s Benefits Design Research 2026 highlights how employers are at distinctly different points in the maturity of their benefits data, depending on how robust their benefits performance review strategies are.
This perception gap leaves many employers overestimating the impact of their benefits package and missing opportunities to improve outcomes and demonstrate value.
The research findings show the differences in top governance improvement priorities for those taking a strategic approach to their benefits data, compared with those who have a less established system. Those with mature data processes are keen to explore new opportunities with benefits technology, including AI. Whereas those still developing their data strategy are focused on putting more robust processes in place.
The key findings from the research are available in the free four-page briefing which details the key findings and actions.
The research was conducted as an online quantitative survey in January 2026 among REBA’s membership community and wider database of HR professionals. It achieved participation from 381 predominantly medium to large organisations, representing an estimated 1.4 million employees.
It contains insights from a broad range of company sizes and industry sectors, including Boots UK, Dentsu, Ocado, Rolls-Royce, Santander and Unilever.
