Building a wellbeing culture at Sky Group is a priority for Tom Gardner, Head of Group Benefits.

Speaking on the Working trends which are changing health and wellbeing strategies REBA webinar on 5 July 2023, Gardner explained how he ensures health and wellbeing strategies remain relevant.

“We’re supporting our leaders to be aware of the importance of wellbeing in the workplace,” he said. “We’ve also brought together teams across the organisation, for instance reward, occupational health, DEI [diversity, equity and inclusivity], to create a more holistic practice.”

As well as getting this buy-in for wellbeing, employee feedback is key. “We’ve embedded a wellbeing focus into our annual people survey,” he said. “We look directly at the results but also the correlation with broader engagement scores to see where we’re getting it really right.”

This annual survey is supplemented by more ad hoc listening projects to gauge employee opinion. This can help determine which areas of wellbeing are particularly important to the workforce at any time.

To illustrate this, Gardner points to one of his current priorities – financial wellbeing. “Our people are worried about the economic environment, so financial education has come to the fore,” he said.
