Employee Wellness Research 2016: Mobile and app-based wellness initiatives set to explode
Meanwhile around a quarter (27.1%) will introduce virtual GP access or wearable wellness devices (24.9%) over the same period, according to research conducted by the Reward & Employee Benefits Association (REBA) in conjunction with Punter Southall Health & Protection.
The REBA/Punter Southall Health & Protection Employee Wellness Research 2016 report showed that in 2015 such services were limited offerings. Only 11.6% offered virtual GP access (where employees can attend a video appointment with a doctor via their PC or mobile devices); 10.3% offered wearable wellness devices such as heart rate monitors and pedometers and only 8.5% offered wellness apps that help promote fitness.
Explosive growth predicted
Based on the figures from the survey that means huge growth for the market with workplace wellness apps expected to grow by 474%; workplace virtual GP access by 333.6% and wearable wellness devices via the workplace by 341.7%.
“These are all still relatively new technologies to the wellness market and some companies may not have even discovered them yet alone thought about how to implement them. However the planned increase in adoption this year shows that organisations are starting to realise their value within their businesses,” said Debi O’Donovan, director at REBA.
