Richard Stokes group HR director at Aggreko discusses the changing reward landscape

Aggreko, a global mobile modular power company, has undergone a transformation from a very decentralised organisation to a mature workplace where reward has been aligned to its core value propositions, explains Richard Stokes, group HR director at Aggreko.

“The company went through a rapid growth period and its now a much more mature business, so we took the opportunity to align reward with some of our value propositions and also derive some cost savings.”

One significant change instigated was to take the 270 bonus structures in place down to just one with, what Richard calls, five different ‘flavours'.

“We [also] looked at our whole benefits landscape which was very fragmented and saw huge opportunities to drive both standardisation and cost savings, so improving the employee experience and cover, but also enabling us to leverage the scale of the organisation.”

Stokes adds that a big challenge he has faced during this time, has been that although the changes have been made across the company, local differences have had to be taken into consideration as a one-size-fits all approach would not have worked effectively for employees.
