Video tutorial: Author Jon Ingham on why employers need to embrace the value of digital HR

The core basis of what is done in reward is still fundamentally what was being done 10 or 20 years ago and needs to change urgently, according to Jon Ingham, author of The Social Organization and a people strategist focused on digital HR and the future of work.

“I’m absolutely convinced that we do still need more transformation in this space,” he told delegates at the REBA Innovation Day.

He said that employers need to embrace a digital HR strategy in order to transform what they are doing for employees. And that means developing digital business strategies too, he said.

“It’s about getting closer to our employees and really focusing on the employee experience,” he said.

He explained the value of teams, communities and networks and the value of social capital in reward, as well as recognising social talent rather than individual talent. “There is so much opportunity to do things differently,” he said.

He said to start with clear objectives, understand workforce needs and have clear principles and values. “Think creatively and laterally about how you should be rewarding people – don’t just be blinkered to what you’ve done in the past,” he said.

This video was recorded at the REBA Innovation Day 2018, held in London on 22 November.
