Survey: UK Gender Pay Gap

Mercer's survey aims to gain insights from HR and reward professionals on their perceptions, concerns and plans surrounding the gender pay gap legislation. The report also seeks to understand where organisations are on their gender pay gap journey.

Key findings:

  • Nearly three-quarters of employers remain in favour of the gender pay gap legislation. However, 52% do not think it will make any difference.
  • Around 70% of the 165 companies surveyed had conducted a dry-run analysis of their gender pay gap numbers.
  • Most organisations are increasing their short-term activity to address their gender pay gap.
  • Leading organisations are going beyond legislation to tackle long-term drivers, such as career, occupation and inclusion.
  • The median reported gender pay gap was 20.5%.

A total of 165 organisations took part in the survey in May 2017, with 870,000 employees represented. 48 organisations were from the FTSE 350, the remainder are UK subsidiaries or private companies.
